The United Nations Survey 聯合國調查

話說聯合國有一次利用以下的題目，做了一次全球大調查：

「Please express your personal opinion regarding the issue of “food shortages” taking place in other countries.」

（請針對發生在其他國家的「糧食短缺」發表你的個人意見）。

結果這個調查完全失敗，因為：

People in Africa don’t know what “food” is;

People in Western Europe don’t know what “shortages” are;

People in Eastern Europe don’t know what “personal opinion” is;

People in South America don’t know what “please” is;

And, people in the United States don’t know what “other countries” are!!

（在非州的人不知道何謂「糧食」；

在西歐的人不知道何謂「短缺」；

在東歐的人不知何謂「個人意見」；

在南美州的人不知何謂「請」；

在美國的人不知何謂「其他國家」！）

不管你承不承認，其實大部分的人都會或多或少對其他種族或民族產生不同程度的 stereotype（刻板印象）。stereotype 通常某種程度具有真實性，也可以幫助我們了解其他民族的特性，但是如果你認為「所有的」非洲人都很窮、「所有的」西歐人都很有錢、「所有的」東歐人都還在共產主義的暴政下噤若寒蟬、或者「所有的」南美洲人都很粗魯，講話不說「請」字，那就會演變成 prejudice（偏見）了！而一旦 prejudice 加上 power（權勢），就很容易變成 racism（種族歧視），那世界就變成現在這種打打殺殺、你死我活的景況了！
